fatality rate
Mortality per capita
Fatality rate measures how often a disease, event, or condition results in death, expressed as a proportion or percentage of affected cases.
In epidemiology, it's often called the case fatality rate, distinguishing how deadly something is among those who have it from how many deaths it causes in a population overall.
The fatality rate for rabies approaches 100% without treatment.
The term applies beyond medicine to accidents, disasters, and other hazards where death is a possible outcome.
