fascine
Bound branch bundle
A fascine is a bundle of sticks or branches bound together, used in construction and military engineering.
Fascines fill ditches, reinforce earthworks, or stabilize embankments.
Historically, soldiers threw fascines into trenches to create crossings or piled them to build fortifications.
The technique dates to ancient warfare but remained useful through World War I.
