professional teams
Paid athletic organizations
Professional teams are sports organizations whose players are paid to compete, as opposed to amateur athletes.
The term usually refers to franchises in major leagues—baseball, football, basketball, hockey—though it extends to any organized competitive group that pays its members: The city has three professional teams.
In business contexts, professional team sometimes describes a group of skilled specialists assembled for a project.
