falsework

Temporary building support

Falsework is temporary structural support used during construction, typically to hold concrete or masonry in place until it can bear its own weight.

The term appears in engineering and architecture: The falsework will be removed once the arch cures.

Unlike scaffolding, which supports workers, falsework supports the structure itself during building.
