fainting goat
Stiffening startled ruminant
A fainting goat is a breed of domestic goat with a genetic condition causing temporary muscle stiffness when startled.
The goat doesn't actually faint or lose consciousness—its muscles lock up briefly, sometimes causing it to fall over stiffly.
Also called a myotonic goat or Tennessee fainting goat.
When the dog barked, the fainting goat toppled onto its side.
