eosinophile

Granular immune cell

An eosinophile is a white blood cell with granules that stain readily with eosin, an acidic red dye.

These cells play roles in fighting parasites and in allergic reactions.

The spelling eosinophil is more common in medical literature; eosinophile reflects the older French-influenced form.
