eosinophils

Parasite-attacking white cells

Eosinophils are a type of white blood cell involved in the immune response, particularly against parasites and in allergic reactions.

They're named for their affinity for eosin, a red dye that stains them distinctively under microscopy.

Elevated eosinophil counts often indicate allergies, asthma, or parasitic infection: The blood work showed elevated eosinophils.
