engorgements
States of distension
Engorgements are instances of becoming swollen or distended, typically from excess fluid or blood.
The term appears most often in medical contexts: breast engorgement in nursing mothers, vascular engorgement in inflamed tissue.
Figuratively, any excessive accumulation might be called an engorgement: the engorgements of wealth that characterized the Gilded Age.
