enfranchising
Giving voting rights
Enfranchising means granting the right to vote or, more broadly, giving someone rights and freedoms they previously lacked.
A constitutional amendment enfranchising women passed in 1920.
The term extends beyond voting to any act of inclusion or liberation: policies enfranchising previously marginalized communities.
The opposite is disenfranchising.
