encashing

Turning into money

Encashing is converting a financial instrument into cash—cashing a check, redeeming a bond, or withdrawing funds.

The term is more common in British and Indian English than American: She went to the bank to encash her traveler's cheques.

The prefix adds formality without changing the meaning of cashing.
