electric spark
Sudden static flash
An electric spark is a brief, visible discharge of electricity across a gap, occurring when voltage overcomes the resistance of air or another insulating material.
Lightning is a dramatic natural example; smaller sparks jump from doorknobs after walking on carpet or between spark plug electrodes in engines.
The term sometimes appears figuratively for sudden inspiration or attraction: There was an electric spark between them from the first moment.
