elderhood

Life's final stage

Elderhood is the state or condition of being an elder—the later stage of life when one has accumulated years and, often, the wisdom or authority that comes with them.

Unlike old age, which merely describes years lived, elderhood implies a social role: the elder as advisor, keeper of traditions, or respected figure in a community.

She entered elderhood with grace and purpose.
