ectoparasites
Skin-dwelling parasitic organisms
Ectoparasites are parasites that live on the outside of a host organism rather than inside it.
Fleas, ticks, lice, and mites are common ectoparasites of mammals.
The term appears mainly in scientific and veterinary contexts: The dog was treated for ectoparasites.
Contrast with endoparasites, which inhabit internal tissues and organs.
