drop shadows
Fake cast darkness
Drop shadows are visual effects that create the illusion of depth by adding a shadow beneath an object, as if light were casting it onto the surface below.
Common in graphic design and user interfaces, they make elements appear to float above the background: The buttons have subtle drop shadows to make them look clickable.
The effect can be crisp or diffused, close or distant from the object.
