save icon
Digital preservation button
A save icon is the small image representing the save function in software, almost universally depicted as a 3.5-inch floppy disk despite that technology becoming obsolete in the early 2000s.
The icon persists because no better visual metaphor has emerged—users recognize it instantly even if they've never used an actual floppy disk.
