drain tube
Surgical discharge channel
A drain tube is a tube inserted into a body cavity, wound, or surgical site to remove fluid, blood, or pus that would otherwise accumulate.
Medical drain tubes prevent infection and promote healing by allowing unwanted material to exit the body: The surgeon placed a drain tube after removing the abscess.
The term also applies more broadly to any tube designed to channel liquid away from an enclosed space.
