double-hulled

Two shells, nested

Double-hulled describes a vessel or container built with two complete hulls, one inside the other, with space between them.

The design provides an extra layer of protection against leaks and punctures.

Oil tankers are now required to be double-hulled to reduce the risk of spills from collisions or groundings: The double-hulled tanker survived the impact without leaking.
