digital artifacts
Pixelated image errors
Digital artifacts are unintended visual or audio distortions caused by compression, processing, or transmission errors in electronic media.
In images, they appear as blocky areas, color banding, or pixelation; in audio, as clicks, stutters, or metallic distortion: The video quality was so low you could see compression artifacts everywhere.
The term also refers to any object or file created digitally—documents, images, code—especially when preserved for later reference: The project's digital artifacts are archived on the company server.
