diesel train
Non-electric rail vehicle
A diesel train is a train powered by diesel engines rather than steam, electricity, or other fuel sources.
Diesel trains dominated rail transport through much of the 20th century, replacing steam locomotives for their efficiency and lower maintenance: The diesel train rumbled through the crossing.
They remain common for freight and in areas without electrified track.
