devas

Celestial beings, Eastern

Devas are divine beings in Hindu and Buddhist traditions—gods, celestial spirits, or supernatural entities inhabiting higher realms.

The word comes from Sanskrit meaning "shining one" or "heavenly." In Western esoteric and New Age contexts, devas are sometimes nature spirits or angelic beings governing natural forces: the deva of the garden, mountain devas.
