Mara
Buddhist tempter figure
Mara is a feminine given name used across many cultures, with various origins—Hebrew for "bitter," Irish as a form of Mary, or Sanskrit relating to death.
In Buddhist tradition, Mara is the demon of temptation who tried to distract the Buddha from enlightenment: Mara sent his daughters to seduce the Buddha. (Lowercase mara is a South American rodent.)
