desaturate

Remove color intensity

To desaturate is to reduce or remove color intensity, making something less vivid.

In photography and digital imaging, desaturating shifts an image toward grayscale: I desaturated the photo to give it a moody feel.

The term appears in color theory and design wherever vibrancy is deliberately muted.

The opposite is saturate.
