deposit return
Container redemption payment
A deposit return is money refunded when you bring back a container you paid extra for at purchase.
Many states and countries add a small deposit to bottles and cans—five or ten cents—that you recover by returning empties to a store or recycling center: I saved up my deposit returns for beer money.
The system incentivizes recycling rather than littering.
