demagnification

Making images smaller

Demagnification is the optical reduction of an image, making it appear smaller than the original object.

The opposite of magnification.

In imaging systems, demagnification compresses visual information: The X-ray tube uses demagnification to produce a sharper focal spot.

The ratio indicates how much smaller the image becomes relative to the source.
