slot receiver
Interior pass catcher
A slot receiver is a football player who lines up in the slot—the area between the offensive line and a wide receiver positioned near the sideline.
Slot receivers typically run shorter routes over the middle of the field, relying on quickness and precise timing rather than deep speed: He's too small to play outside but thrives as a slot receiver.
