Defensive tackle position
A nose guard is a protective device worn over the nose, typically to shield it during contact sports or after injury.
In American football, nose guard also names the defensive lineman positioned directly opposite the center—so called because he lines up at the "nose" of the offensive formation.
The nose guard stuffed the run up the middle.
