defenestrating

Tossing through glass

Defenestrating is throwing someone or something out of a window.

The word comes from Latin *fenestra* (window) and carries a darkly comic tone, often referencing the Defenestrations of Prague, when Bohemian nobles tossed imperial officials from castle windows.

Modern use is frequently figurative—forcibly ejecting someone from a position: The board is defenestrating the CEO.
