sacking

Letting someone go

Sacking is coarse woven fabric, typically made from jute or hemp, used for bags and wrapping: The potatoes came in sacking.

In British English, sacking also means dismissal from employment: He got his sacking notice on Friday.

The word derives from sack in both senses—the bag and the act of firing someone.
