cut-and-paste

Move text elsewhere

Cut-and-paste describes something assembled from existing pieces rather than created fresh.

The term comes from editing, where text or images are literally cut from one place and pasted into another.

Now it usually suggests work that lacks originality or careful thought: a cut-and-paste job, cut-and-paste journalism.

In computing, cut and paste (often unhyphenated) is the basic operation of moving content between locations.
