crystal systems
Mineral symmetry categories
Crystal systems are the seven categories used to classify crystals based on the geometric arrangement of their atoms.
Each system—cubic, tetragonal, orthorhombic, hexagonal, trigonal, monoclinic, and triclinic—defines a set of symmetry properties and axis relationships.
Diamonds belong to the cubic crystal system.
The term appears in mineralogy, chemistry, and materials science.
