cow town
Rural ranching community
A cow town is a small, rural town, especially one centered on cattle ranching or the livestock trade.
Historically, cow towns were stops along cattle drives where herds were sold or shipped by rail: Dodge City was the quintessential cow town.
The term now applies dismissively to any small, unsophisticated place: I couldn't wait to leave that cow town.
