country western
Nashville radio sound
Country western, also styled country-western or country and western, describes a genre of American popular music that blends the folk traditions of the rural South with the cowboy songs and swing influences of the American West.
The term was widely used from the 1940s through the 1970s before being largely supplanted by simply "country." It can modify nouns like music, singer, or bar, and often evokes images of fiddles, steel guitars, and songs about heartache and honky-tonks.
