counting rhymes
Children's selection verses
Counting rhymes are children's verses used to select someone for a role in a game—who's "it" in tag, who hides first, who gets eliminated.
A child points to each player in turn, one per syllable, and whoever lands on the final syllable is chosen or out: Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.
The nonsense words and irregular rhythms give an appearance of randomness to what is actually predictable.
