counterproposals

Negotiation's return volleys

Counterproposals are alternative proposals offered in response to an initial one, typically during negotiations.

When one party rejects or wishes to modify terms, they present a counterproposal: The union rejected management's offer and came back with a counterproposal.

The word implies back-and-forth negotiation rather than outright refusal.
