counter offer
Revised deal proposal
A counter offer is a response to an offer that rejects the original terms and proposes new ones.
In negotiations, making a counter offer typically voids the initial offer: They offered $300,000 for the house, but we came back with a counter offer of $340,000.
In employment, a counter offer is what your current employer proposes to keep you when you've accepted a job elsewhere.
