corpsmen
Navy medical personnel
Corpsmen is the plural of corpsman, a member of a military medical unit who provides first aid and emergency care in combat.
Navy corpsmen serve alongside Marines, often the first responder when someone is wounded: The corpsmen rushed to treat the injured soldiers.
The word combines corps (a military unit) with -man, though the corps is silent, making it sound like "core-men."
