Cornets is the plural of cornet, a brass instrument similar to a trumpet but with a more compact shape and mellower tone, common in brass bands and jazz: The cornets led the melody while the trombones provided harmony.

In British English, a cornet is also an ice cream cone, especially the wafer kind with a pointed bottom.
