corn husking
Removing maize coverings
Corn husking is the removal of the outer leaves (husks) from ears of corn.
Before mechanization, this was done by hand and often became a social event—a husking bee—where neighbors gathered to process the harvest together.
The term covers both the agricultural task and the communal gatherings built around it: We're having a corn husking this Saturday.
