cooperative housing
Member-owned residential building
Cooperative housing is a residential arrangement where occupants collectively own the building or complex rather than individual units.
Residents purchase shares in a corporation that holds the property, entitling them to occupy a specific unit: The co-op board must approve all new buyers.
Unlike condominiums, owners don't hold deeds to their apartments but rather stock in the cooperative.
Often shortened to co-op.
