cooling centers
Public climate havens
Cooling centers are public facilities—libraries, community centers, shopping malls—opened during heat waves so people without air conditioning can escape dangerous temperatures.
Local governments announce cooling center locations during extreme heat emergencies: The city opened three cooling centers as temperatures hit 105 degrees.
