conservation of mass
Mass stays constant
Conservation of mass is the principle that mass cannot be created or destroyed in a closed system—it can only change form.
In chemical reactions, the total mass of reactants equals the total mass of products.
The principle underlies basic chemistry: The equation must balance to satisfy conservation of mass.
Einstein's relativity showed mass can convert to energy, but in ordinary chemistry the principle holds.
