cocoanuts

Palm tree fruit

Cocoanuts is an older spelling of coconuts, the large tropical fruits with hard shells, white flesh, and liquid center.

The spelling persists mainly in historical texts and the title of the 1929 Marx Brothers film *The Cocoanuts*.

Modern usage strongly favors the simplified coconuts.
