clotheslines

Outdoor drying cords

Clotheslines are ropes or wires strung between posts or buildings for hanging laundry to dry outdoors.

The term also serves as a verb in sports and fighting: to clothesline someone is to strike them across the neck or chest with an extended arm, knocking them backward as if they'd run into a clothesline at speed.
