unpegging

Removing the clips

Unpegging is the act of releasing something from a fixed relationship or value.

Most commonly used in finance, where unpegging a currency means allowing it to float freely rather than maintaining a fixed exchange rate against another currency: The central bank announced it was unpegging the franc from the euro.

Can apply to any removal of a peg or fixed connection.
