cliff dweller

High ledge resident

A cliff dweller is someone who lives in a dwelling built into a cliff face or rock overhang.

The term most often refers to the Ancestral Puebloans and other Native American peoples of the American Southwest who constructed elaborate stone communities in canyon walls: The cliff dwellers of Mesa Verde left behind remarkable ruins.

By extension, cliff dweller humorously describes apartment residents in tall urban buildings.
