burdock
Hooked seed burrs
Burdock is a weedy plant with large leaves and prickly burrs that cling tenaciously to clothing and animal fur.
The burrs inspired the invention of Velcro.
In some cuisines, particularly Japanese, the long taproots are eaten as a vegetable called gobo.
Burdock root also appears in herbal remedies and traditional medicine.
