clackers

Swinging ball toy

Clackers are a toy consisting of two hard plastic balls connected by a string, designed to be swung rhythmically so they click together above and below the hand.

Popular in the early 1970s, they were eventually banned or discontinued in many places due to the balls shattering and causing injuries.

The term also refers to anything that makes a clacking sound, including teeth chattering from cold or, in British slang, testicles.
