chuckhole

Pavement's sudden dip

A chuckhole is a hole or pit in a road surface, formed by wear or weather.

The word is regional American English, used mainly in the Midwest and parts of the South.

Elsewhere the same thing is called a pothole: I hit a chuckhole and spilled my coffee.
