check raise
Trap then escalate
A check raise is a poker move where a player first checks (declines to bet), then raises after an opponent bets.
It's a deceptive play—appearing weak to lure others into betting, then springing the trap: He check-raised me on the river and I folded.
The hyphenated form doubles as a verb: She check-raised with pocket aces.
