catheterize

Drain via tube

To catheterize is to insert a catheter—a thin, flexible tube—into the body, typically into the bladder to drain urine.

The procedure is common in hospitals for patients who cannot urinate normally: The nurse catheterized the patient before surgery.

Also spelled catheterise in British English.
